You’ve probably heard this thousands of times if your involved in internet marketing, the money is in the list and unfortunately I’ve got to point out here that that is true in a lot of cases. There are other ways of making money such as PPC, but having a targeted list of subscribers is up there as one of the most powerful tools that marketers can have.

There are a variety of ways of building a list, they normally involve having a product and building a list through traffic you get to that or by creating a squeeze page giving away free information on your chosen niche. However these methods still involve a large amount of promoting and work to set up. Another route you could go down is affiliate marketing, where you recruit people to market your page for you and help build your list, however you will then need to offer an incentive for people to promote your page, like commission on any one time offers.

Now to most people who start listbuilding it is a slow difficult process that takes months before any results at all arise. That can be caused by many reasons including all the promotion of the list is being done by you, unless you have affiliates or your website doesn’t convert people like you would want it to. Listbuilding unless you have some major connections in the field you are in can be an incredibly slow process. But still almost every internet marketer is telling people that the money is in the list.

Even though as I prviously outlined about listbuilding being a slow process, it is a powerful thing because it means when a new product is released in your niche then you have a list of people who will be much more likely to buy what you have to offer. Of course there are the alternatives out there to building your own list, and they include joining safelists, and other free lead generating programs. These are not as good as having your own list but you can see some results through using them. Also some traffic exchanges allow you to buy solo adverts sent out to the entire membership base, which are often good value and can be effective.

Safelists are another method that I mentioned, with these you are best doing like with traffic exchange marketing and using splash pages to grab peoples attention. With safelists there is a lot of competition and the standard popular internet marketing systems will be massively over advertised there. So you need to look at what people are advertising and try to find a system that no one else is promoting to get results. Another major thing is that safelists are really only used for selling internet marketing products, so for other niches they will be less effective. For the internet marketing niche there are hundreds of safelists out there and other email list programs that you can use to market as an affiliate. But in other topics it will be harder.
