In today’s world, Internet is clearly the easiest, fastest and the most effective medium for communication. And, as the technology grows, it is deemed to get only better.

So, as the internet expands, the demand for good web designs and web designers is also rising by the day. Almost everyone wants a presence on the internet. And if you add the social media (also known as new media) angle to it, the opportunities start piling up even further – there are blogs, forums and other social media venues that are being created and used every minute.

That addresses one aspect of our question (”How good is web designing as a career?”) – the career opportunities are plentiful for web designers and the graph is looking up for the future too. The other aspect is whether you will love web designing as a career i.e. is it the right career for you? This is important because you can excel in your job only if you love it. 1.Do you have an interest in creating or discussing visual representations or drawings? If you do have an interest in art and graphics, you will surely love web designing as a career because that is what you are required to do as web designer – creating visually appealing layouts and graphics. However, if you don’t already have an interest you might still find it quite appealing as a career option once you see yourself creating really nice web pages (and that too quite easily, using the intuitive web design tools).

2.Do computer geeks fascinate you? You might not have too much interest in art and design but you might still be interested in solving problems through computer programming. In such a case, web designing (in the strict sense) might not be a great option and web programmer or web developer kind of roles might be better suited. These (web programmers/ developers) are the guys that do programming in HTML, CSS, XML and other computer languages in order to make the website or web application function as per the requirements. Note that it is common to find people referring to web programmers/ developers as web designers.

3.Do you love the internet? Since web designing is all about designing web pages and web applications for the internet (and intranet/extranet), you ought to love the internet if you are looking for a career in web designing. And if you haven’t experienced the power of internet in the complete sense, you should go and do it now. If you don’t still find it fantastic, then web designing is not a suitable profession for you.

4.Do you love to work in teams? Well, the ability to work in teams is a must in every profession today; however, in the context of web designing it is even more important because web designers don’t work in isolation – there is a team of programmers, graphic designers, content writers and others that work together to produce a great web application.
